Learn moreGray, Tennessee · Washington County
Gray sits in Washington County just off the I-26 corridor between Kingsport and Johnson City, close to where I-26 meets I-81. It reads as a suburb of Johnson City more than a town in its own right, with a lot of newer residential growth along Bobby Hicks Highway and Suncrest Drive and farmland still hanging on behind it. Two things put Gray on the map: the Gray Fossil Site, uncovered during road work in two thousand, and the Appalachian Fairgrounds, which fills the place up every August. Access from Kingsport is quick and almost entirely interstate, so it is one of the easier out-of-county runs we make.

Newer subdivisions dominate the middle of Gray, which means wide concrete driveways, generous turnarounds and few overhead obstacles. That is the simplest work we do. Away from those, the older roads run out into rolling farm country with houses set back behind long gravel drives, mature hardwood along the lane and the odd low bridge or culvert. The topography here is the softer end of the ridge-and-valley pattern, more rolling than steep, but the soil is the same clay and it behaves the same way in a wet spell. Around the fairgrounds and along the highway there are tighter commercial lots where placement has to account for parking and traffic rather than terrain.
New construction and recent-build renovation is a big share here, so we handle framing waste, drywall offcuts, packaging and old landscaping from houses that are not very old at all. Alongside that there is the usual run of re-roofs, kitchen and bath refits, and garage cleanouts. On the farm side we do barn removals, fence lines and brush. Gray also generates a steady stream of moving and downsizing clearances, because families cycle through the subdivisions faster than in the older communities, and a full house of furniture and boxes needs a can rather than a pickup and several trips.

South from Kingsport on I-26 to the Gray exit at Bobby Hicks Highway, which runs about twenty-five minutes door to door. Main routes in: Interstate 26, TN-75 (Bobby Hicks Highway), Interstate 81.

Not for the rental itself. We deliver into Washington County the same way we do Sullivan, and the price does not change. What can differ is anything involving a public street or a local ordinance, since that follows the county or municipality your address sits in. For a can on your own driveway in Gray there is nothing extra to arrange on your side.
Quite possibly, and it is worth five minutes to check. Some associations set limits on how long a container can be visible from the street or require it kept on the driveway rather than the curb. We can work with either, but we would rather know before we arrive than have you sorting it out with a neighbor while our truck waits.
We can, though it is worth timing it. Around the Appalachian Fair the roads near the fairgrounds get congested and our driver will lose time in it. If your job is flexible, book delivery for before or after that stretch. If it is not, tell us your address and we will schedule you outside the worst of the day rather than getting caught in it.
Sort as you go and keep the heavy material separate from the light. Furniture, boxes and carpet fill volume; roofing, tile, concrete and dirt fill weight. Mixing them in one can means paying for space you cannot use. Also break down what you can. A dismantled wardrobe takes a third of the room the assembled one does, and that difference is often a whole can size.
