Learn moreChurch Hill, Tennessee · Hawkins County
Church Hill is the largest town sitting wholly inside Hawkins County, strung along US-11W south-west of Kingsport with Mount Carmel between the two. It has more of an actual town center than its neighbors, and it has history: the church that gave the place its name still stands on Grandview Street, and Carter's Store was a trading post here in the seventeen seventies. Volunteer High School draws students from a wide stretch of the county. The town runs from the highway down toward the Holston and back up into the ridges, so what a job looks like depends a great deal on which side of 11W your address falls on.

Close to the highway you get compact streets of one and two-story frame and brick houses, some of them genuinely old, with short driveways and street trees that have been there a long time. Head north toward Christian Bend and the river and the pattern changes completely: long gravel drives, farm gates, houses set well back, and lanes that follow the contour rather than a straight line. South and west the ground climbs into the ridges with steep, narrow drives and switchback approaches. The older houses in the middle of town have plaster interiors and narrow side yards, which affects both what comes out and where a can can physically sit. Wet weather is the recurring problem on the river-bottom roads, where the ground holds water longer than the ridges do.
There is a lot of older-house renovation here, which means plaster, lath, layered flooring, and outdated wiring and plumbing coming out together. Roofing is constant, both asphalt and metal. Out on the county roads we do barn and outbuilding removal, fence-line clearing and general property cleanup, and along the river we get flood and damp remediation work where floors and lower walls come out. Estate cleanouts of long-held family homes are frequent and usually larger than expected. Add to that a steady flow of deck, porch and garage projects, and seasonal yard and tree debris after the storms that come across the ridges.

Straight out US-11W past Mount Carmel, roughly twenty minutes from the yard depending on how the highway lights fall. Main routes in: US-11W, TN-346, Carters Valley Road.

No. Twenty minutes west on 11W is inside our normal service area and the price is the same as a job in Kingsport. What can affect cost is the material you are loading and the weight of it, not the mileage. If somebody is quoting you a distance surcharge for Church Hill, that is a pricing choice rather than a real cost of getting a truck out here.
Plaster and lath is heavy and dusty and it fills a can by weight long before it fills it by volume. Load it evenly rather than heaping one end. If the house is old enough, be alert to asbestos in floor tile, pipe lagging and some textured finishes, and have it checked before demolition. We cannot accept asbestos-containing material in a general debris load.
Often yes, but we would like to know before delivery day. We need about eleven feet of clear width, firm ground, and a place to turn or back out safely. Overhanging limbs and a soft shoulder are the usual limits rather than the surface itself. Send a photo of the lane and the spot you want the can and we will tell you straight away.
For a can on your own driveway or yard, no. If it has to sit on a public street or right of way, that is the City of Church Hill's call and you should confirm their requirements before you book. County addresses outside the city limits follow different rules again. We can usually find a private placement that avoids the question, so ask us before assuming the street is the only option.
